Make Your Plan
Step one to success in the college application process is making a game plan. Creating concrete timelines and goals will reduce stress and put you in the control of the process.
In the first year of high school, focus on getting a firm foundation with good grades. As you gain momentum, try new experiences and stretch yourself. Freshman year should be about gradually expanding your comfort zone while gaining solid footing socially and academically. Sophomore, continue to do well in school while digging deeper into the activities you enjoy. Perhaps you can become involved in your community, find a place where your leadership (or your hard work) shines and develop your interests. By the time you are a junior your coursework should be increasingly rigorous and your extra-curricular activities should be focussed. Colleges tell us they want to see students develop their interests rather than be a "joiner". Summers are a great time to find way to develop your interests or work at something you enjoy or go to camp! All of these are great ways to explore what is important to you.
