supporting your student

Congratulations!

You've almost made it through your child's adolescent years and are about to embark on what I, at The Accepted Life, think of as the most exciting and interesting time in your teen's life.

I love what I do and love working with teens to help them map their future. I know that each child brings a unique set of qualities - strengths, weaknesses, extra-curricular experiences and personal characteristics to the college admissions process. Some traditional students are highly focussed on academics, excel at school and are looking for highly selective post secondary options. Students in these categories are often focussed only on a very few schools that accept less than 10% of applicants. In this highly competitive environment, these students need many options for an admissions match. It's not enough to focus only on a small category of notable schools...with over 3,000 colleges and universities there are many places where students will be successful. I believe that helping your child find her best fit school is the key to post secondary success.

I strongly believe that going to college is a family decision which requires cooperation and communication between parents and students. While I acknowledge you play a key role in your child's college attendance, when we work together, your student is my primary contact throughout the admission cycle. I will always share information with you, but I expect your child to take the lead in communicating directly with me, scheduling meetings, and being responsible for all assignments.

Some of my favorite resources for parents include websites and blogs that provide you with information from other professionals. I believe knowledge is power and the more you know, the more you can control the process.
